Our Pastor

(Brief Bio) Reverend William James Wyne, Jr. is a native of Birmingham, Alabama. He served as the Pastor of Missionary Union Baptist Church, Columbus, Mississippi from March 1980 to September 1991. He is presently the Senior Pastor of the historical Second Missionary Baptist Church, Battle Creek, Michigan, that was established in 1849. Since assuming the leadership of the church in January 1999, Second's New Vision and Outreach Ministries has been established (Community Development Corporation). The Outreach Ministries consists of the Shalom Health and Wellness Clinic (a collaboration with Battle Creek Health System), an after-school Reading Incentive Program (RIP) in collaboration with Yes We Can and the Battle Creek Public Schools, and The Place, a transitional house for males in collaboration with The Haven of Rest Rescue Mission. The congregation is presently in pursuit of constructing a $1.7 million family life center.

Pastor Wyne completed his clinical residency in Clinical Pastoral Education at Children's Hospital of Detroit, Michigan, and is Board Certified Chaplain by the Association of Professional Chaplains. He holds theological degrees from Bethany Bible College, Dothan, Alabama (BA in Ministry), Faith Lutheran Evangelical Seminary, Tacoma, Washington (MA in Christian Ministry), and is currently a doctoral candidate at Ecumenical Theological Seminary in Detroit. He is an instructor with the Chain Lake District Association and Vice-Moderator. He is also on the faculty of Wolverine State Congress of Christian Education. Rev. Wyne is a member of the Ethics Committee of Battle Creek Health System, Chairperson of the Ecumenical Community MLK Service, President of the United Community Ministerial Alliance, a Trustee at Kalamazoo College, and has served on the Board of Safe Place. He is the recipient of numerous honors and awards that attest to his work. Pastor Wyne's sermon, "A Faith for Life's Fires", was published by The African American Pulpit in the Summer 2003 issue.

Reverend Wyne is married to Josie Howard-Wyne. They are the parents of two daughters, Lisa S. Stinson, and Genesis L. Wyne.
